The Laser Theory

*This is an abbreviated excerpt from our book Beware of Dream Killers found on Amazon.

Focus

Laser: Think of a laser like a kid with a magnifying glass burning ants. For a laser to be effective, it must be focused. Otherwise, you waste time and materials.

People: People with no Focus give you mixed results. When a team is out of sync you can tell by the results. People going this way, that a way. Making sure everyone is aligned will get you the desired result faster.

Power

Laser: The CO2 laser can engrave and mark wood, stone, and glass in seconds. TREMENDOUS power. Know when to exert power.

People: The power you demonstrate can help or hurt you.  Too little and you’re trying to move a mountain with a spoon. Too much power and you’re pushing a chair with a bulldozer.  When power (authority) is misused it can appear violent and disturbing. Know when to exert power.

Speed

Laser: Our Monport CO2 lasers has Lightning speed, able to engrave at 18,000/mms (millimeter per second). The laser makes violent moves and jerks. You will trade speed for quality. So Frequently, it’s alright to slow down the laser to enjoy a better result.

People: As Americans we’re ultra-productive. We tend to rush things along so we can get to the next task. It’s alright to slow down..sometimes. If you’re able to slow down and give your tasks the necessary attention and focus you end up with a much better result.

Understanding The Equipment

Laser: It’s highly important to know what the laser can and can’t do. Without knowing the laser's limitations one might expect some unreasonable outcomes. Each brand is different. Using settings from another brand isn’t realistic.

People: Like individual lasers, each person has different “operating parameters”. These different capabilities are what make us unique and valuable. When working with people it's important to understand and respect other skill sets!

End in Mind

If you begin a project without even knowing what you want the end product to look like, you’re rushing to failure. If you begin your project with the right team in alignment (focused), well rested, prepared, and ready (power), then take the necessary time (speed), you can have the results you envisioned at the start of your project.
